Observation details
Watched the nest for around 40 mins (12.43pm to 1.20pm). Before the birding police comes for me -- I made sure to keep my distance from the nest. Nobody passed me on the trail, so the location wasn't revealed to anyone by my presence. The Woodpeckers themselves didn't do a good job at hiding the nest. The nest was barely 5ft above ground (used my height as reference) and less than 2m from the trail. Plus the babies were constantly calling. The parents took a note of my presence, but seemed unbothered by it. In this time the female fed the young ones 6 times, and carried fecal matter out at least 2 times. The third time it seemed to carry out the fecal matter, but looked out a couple of times before staying back in. Then came out with nothing in its mouth, licked its tongue a couple of times, it was a pleasure to watch the length of it having seen it only in photos or illustration. One of the times the female was feeding, she changed directions of the feed in the same feeding round indicating there were at least two babies. The male fed the birds 2 times within the first 10mins and seems to have disappeared after that. Videos to be added.
