Observation details
Small, slender sparrow with long, narrow tail and short bill. Smaller than the swamp sparrow that was near it when first spotted. Distinct gray collar-like nape with pale face. Buffy supercilium (brow), transitioning into white (likely from nonbreeding to breeding plumage). Darker, orange-pink legs, also likely transitioning. White crown stripe, slightly duller than full breeding plumage. Pale pink beak. Thick eyering paler than surrounding feathers, pale lores. Light/white edging on median & greater coverts. Thin, dark lateral and mustache stripe. Ruled out: Chipping Sparrow (lacks cap), Savannah/Song (lacks frontal striping/streaking), Swamp/Tree/Field (distinct color difference between facial feathers and collar), Brewer's (Brewer's lacks collar). Also overall too light and too small for other comparable species. Initially ID'd by Max Sloan. Will add pics
