Observation details
Heard calling from bushes along stream bed between trail intersection to Acid Canyon and the iron equipment bridge upstream. Heard twice; when I first arrived in canyon and again as I was about to depart near the end of this checklist. Merlin was adamant both times this was a Nashville and not a Tennessee Warbler. Having examined the spectrum in the audiogram, I'm inclined to agree. The Nashville's call has a rich harmony structure in the die-off after the initial call, with a "comb" containing many "fingers" signifying the numerous frequencies of the notes in this die-off, but with a high frequency for the lowest components of this die-off. This is in contrast to the die-off of the call of the Tennessee, which has a "comb" with more "fingers" and with a much lower frequency for the lowest components of the die-off. Please listen to and visually examine the audio recording. Compare with the Macaulay exemplars for the Nashville call, particularly https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/250159421. Contrast with Macaulay exemplars for the Tennessee call, particularly https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/250159421.
