Observation details
Continuing species at this site. Maximum number present, well to the south of the corner overlook (distant photo below, left). Large brownish shorebirds with long obviously curved bills; overall size clearly bigger than the nearby BNSTs, but not as large as a LBCU (regarding both bill and body). Birds were eventually observed leaving the main group as singletons or pairs, landing in the alfalfa (?) field immediately east of Lack Rd and south of the geothermal power plant. Some WHIMs eventually flew back to the west, with some ending up back by the sea or in the small shallow pool just west of Lack at 33.154432, -115.649357 (right photo, taken upon heading south just after terminating the checklist).
