Observation details
Bell’s Sparrow spot. Very brief look before it dove into brush & then perched on other side of road. We do have photos ---- Notes from Sylvia A : Known bird(s) in the area; belli - coastal subspecies; lacks white outer tail feathers like in canescens; differentiated by the nearby species, Black-chinned Sparrow (BCSP) due to its white underbelly, black central spot, white eyering, lighter gray appearance, dark silvery bill vs pink in the BCSP, black malar striping vs a concentrated black chin; but more comparable to Sagebrush Sparrow, but with thicker malar striping, a darker face, and no white outer tail feathers, amongst other things. Unfortunately, I was not able to observe its back for additional details. 1129 to 1132 – teed up onto a leafless bush/snag, singing. Presumably solo, although there was one across the trail earlier, which could be its partner or the same one that relocated. Only saw 1 at a time.
