Observation details
Two different birds, both passing rather quickly. The first at 10:45am, the second at 1pm. Red-tail size buteo with long pointed forward-leaning wings and smallish head. Swooping flight with up-tilted wings when circling. The first was either an adult or near-adult or intermediate morph with solid dark gray-brown back and upper wings (no pale braces or patterning as in red-tail). Pale area at uppertail coverts. Dark upper tail, underside lightly banded. Underwing flight feathers just as dark or darker than coverts (which were still rather messy). Dark head with white chin and messy dark breast pattern. The 1pm bird was an immature bird with pale eyebrow and throat with dark lines marking throat edges. Noted primarily for SWHA shape and structure.
