Observation details
I saw this bird only through my camera. I was trying to shoot a Yellow Warbler in a tree along the railroad tracks north of Hospital Road, and a silent vireo turned up, rather mysteriously I thought, in my frame. I first identified the bird as a Warbling Vireo, going by the likelihoods. But the photos reveal a bird with dark lores, the line from the eye filling all of the space between the eye and the bill (though the line thins out as it nears the bill). The photos also show that the most intense color on the underparts (at least on those areas that are visible) is on the throat. My tentative conclusion is that the bird is a Philadelphia, but I'd be interested in hearing what reviewers of the evidence might think. It seems there are no spring records of the Philadelphia here at McCarthy Park.
