Media notes
After 5 hour, 50 minute wait, I started walking to leave, but then started walking back - and the bird called twice (not recorded). I began recording audio and it called again three times (in this recording). I have muted one section where I spoke into the mic, therefore the timing of calls in this audio is accurate. High pass filter (300Hz, rolloff 48dB) and gain (+28dB) have been applied using Audacity 2.2.1 for Windows.
Observation details
Heard only. Unbelievable. I arrived 5:30am and had until the 11:30 bus to locate this bird - 6 hours. I spent most of the time focused on blossoming trees. After 5:50 I grabbed my bag to head to bus stop but then turned back, wanting to take a photo of the bench and area I spent most time. As I was walking back it called about 4 times. I had been recording audio almost continuously and fortunately captured the call. Given I was told chances were about 0.5% during this month, I’ll take it. Isa advised me a local ranger told her he’d heard one at the weekend - hence my attempt.
