Observation details
Noticeably larger than the Ring-billed Gulls that it was next to. Probable 2nd summer bird. Yellow legs, yellow bill with a pale tip and black mark behind it on the upper mandible. Red gonydeal spot on lower mandible. Black flecking on nape and about the eye. Dark grayish mantle and dirty brownish secondaries and greater coverts. Black primaries. Dark tail tip. Red orbital ring with yellow iris and dark pupil. This is the first time I’ve seen this species during the month of May in Vermont.
