Media notes
Fittingly, this park is often used as a backdrop for family portraits. Do you see all 10 of her children?
Observation details
1 female adult and 10 very young hatchlings. Possibly dumped/transferred here from someone’s backyard? This is probably not going to end well except, perhaps, for animals further up the food chain. The pond was no refuge today, as there were a lot of screaming and scrambling kids fascinated by the small water feature. Mama duck was leading her flock through the tall grass elsewhere in the park. Of course, the park entrance closes each day at 4:30, so that would be a break... assuming they can avoid the possible hunting coyote, Cooper’s Hawk, crow, raven, or someone’s adorable house cat allowed to roam the outdoors.
