Observation details
Found at 7:15 am by Karen Laidman Zeleznik. Thank you, Karen! Still present at 2:40 pm in Szalay’s corn field east of Riverview closer to the towpath trial. Together foraging in the freshly plowed field. One would forage while the other would stay upright. Some preening from both. Apparently not bothered by heavy rain. Move like Great Blue Herons when walking. Grey bodies with long, lighter-colored necks sometimes held in a slight curve, long beaks and red crowns. Also tall birds- long legs. Feathers were more heavily concentrated and darker at the ends of their bodies. Too far away for cell photos but submitting a few anyhow for documentation only. Lifer!!! 4:01- circled back to watch them again. Walking around, spreading their wings, grabbing something in their beaks and throwing it up in the air & repeating (rodent?). Don’t stray far from each other, maybe 12 feet maximum. 4:21, walking quickly towards Riverview Road as I left. Awesome birds.
