Crescent-chested Warbler, Pinery Canyon, Cochise County, AZ, 9 May 2024, Carol R. Comeau
Observation details
Found by Ron Beck. Seen by many observers. Previous sightings occurred in mid May 2009 at this hotspot. Notes by Ron Beck: As I arrived at this birding location at about 9:20am, I heard the song of a Crescent-chested Warbler, an insect like dry rattle, lasting about one second, and singing regularly making easier to find, we stopped hearing the bird around 11:00am. The bird was moving frequently, and did several laps around the dispersed campground, seen in oak, pine, and fir trees. The bird had a gray cap, face and neck, bright white supercillium, and lower eye arc, green back, gray wings no wing bars, short tail, bright yellow throat, and chest, with a deep reddish crescent between throat and chest, white belly and vent. Notes on voice and plumage by R. Beck.
