Observation details
Photos. Seen well at close distance. Initially foraging in the water near the bridge. Then flew up into a tree which allowed me to get pictures, including the yellow feet. Comically, the first thing I did was call my girlfriend Katelyn, who was in Buffalo, to tell her, but she insisted I hang up to get photos, thanks Katelyn! And then flew further down the creek to the mouth of the creek to a tree where Turkey Vultures were roosting. It was very active at this point. Around 9:50 it flew off. Then it returned when Nathan Stimson arrived. At 10:50am I watched it fly off directly south just before Bruce Robinson, Gary Bletsch, and Tom and Joanne Goetz arrived. We scoured the spots south of there including the south portion of the preserve, Wilbur/Hall Road, Van Buren Road pond, Berry Road Marsh, and Willow Road. No luck. Will check tomorrow. First Chautauqua record on eBird other than Sundell’s book and first sighting since 1996!
