Observation details
(Rare): 🍊 cont. dowitcher reported earlier today. Digiscope and bin photos. Seen well to be a dowitcher. Silent. — Now at (42.53903, -76.54626) on w. end of rocky bar just w. of RR bridge . — it flew w. with the other shorebirds when the loud train spooked by, landed (42.53898, -76.54667). Then as the train started backing up and we briefly glanced up into tree above to see an oriole there, the SBDO disappeared 3:49pm. Nothing for it to hide in at that spot, low vegetation, so must have flown. — Respotted it 3:58p at (42.5389,-76.5475). — — Caleb heard it call briefly, hard to hear over the train but didn’t sound like a LBDO. — — new NY state bird for us!
