Observation details
At least six or seven. After driving by the park on Friday (May 3rd) and hearing a singing Dickcissel along Park View Drive (the first Dickcissel I can recall ever having at the park), was blown away by how common they seemed to be today. It seemed to be the most commonly heard bird throughout pretty much the entire visit, especially so along the west and north side of the park (the portion accessed by the dirt trail). At two different, well-separated, spots, I couild hear three different singing Dickcissels at the same time. These sounded like they were on territory, as they sang loudly and persistently, often from conspicuous perches atop taller shrubs (or small trees). With the surprising number that were also encountered today along "Mustang Ridge", it seems there's been a large influx of Dickcissels during the last week or so, but am really curious if these are "just" a concentration of migrants, or actually birds attempting to summer at these locations.
