Observation details
Bird was observed from 50ft-575ft over about an hour total. Observed through both scope and binoculars. Lighting varied from slightly overcast to occasionally full sunlight. Dowitcher with thin black and white barring on sides of lower neck and flanks, unlike the spotting typical of Short-billed Dowitcher. Upper parts were a combination of older feathers and freshly molted. The older were mostly grey. The fresh covert feathers were black with less orange barring than expected for Short-billed and also broadly tipped with white.
