Observation details
County bird! Thanks to Paul Vanderhoof who found it yesterday. Singing, several songs. It seemed like the bird was making a large circle, working a route from the wetland behind the houses along the wetland a brook and back. At first, heard-only, but then we got visuals--for the most part, it was very active, feeding and singing, moving pretty quickly through the trees. Initially (after we'd walked a long loop with no luck), we heard it faintly from the Holdredge trail past the Enchanted Forest trail. Then, later, we heard it closer on Holdredge trail just past the Frog Pond trail. Initially, VB had maybe one brief view; much later, we had very good views. It crossed the trail, moved along the brook and flew back to the wetland. It was mostly very active and much of the time singing, but it would go quiet for blocks of time. When it wasn't singing, we watched it perched quietly high in a tree--with its greenish back to us, with the wingbars prominent but face mostly hidden, it could easily have been overlooked as a flycatcher (or overlooked entirely). Photos and audio.
