Observation details
Scope views as 2 small gulls with black heads, gray mantles and dark (black) underwings foraged near the opposite end of the lake moving north until I lost them as I attempted photos. I do not know of another gull or tern with dark underwings. Flew in a foraging pattern similar to a Bonaparte’s with frequent turns and dips into the water but not dives. I did see 8 terns on the water which I presume were Common Tern since they were reported earlier today, but I could not verify and separate it from Forster’s at that distance. There were also Bonaparte’s Gulls in the area which could be easily separated from the others with the white forewings. Distant photos attached which show the black head and black underwing on both sides but in different photos.
