Observation details
First heard singing immediately when I began surveying, rather like an odd wcsp. A few minutes later I saw it distantly perched on the train tracks. After the survey when I went to get a closer look, it flew north and resumed singing. I tracked it down and was able to obtain photos and recordings confirming the id. It was of medium-large size, rather like a vesper sparrow, with a bulbous bill, plain face, and rusty scalloped back, a white eyering and unstreaked breast My first impression was of a very oversized grasshopper sparrow, but that was immediately ruled out by song. Was able to see it skylarking several times, though it did not allow particularly close approach. This spot is on base and is not public access.
