Observation details
Photos to reviewed later. Appeared larger, longer winged and less frantically flappy than Vaux’s. ST: Seen with several BARS and a PUMA. The bird did a series of loops over the cemetery on 2 different occasions. Due to overcast it was impossible to make out subtle area of paleness (or lack thereof) in the field, though some processing of Karen's photos are indicative of CHSW. While we observed it, it immediately gave both Adam and myself the impression of CHSW over VASW due to perceived structure and the high amount of soaring/gliding it was doing and perhaps "easier" wingbeats compared to what we typically see in VASW, who seemingly have to put more work in to stay airborne. During its first appearance, it was fairly high and gave uninterrupted looks allowing for good study; the second time around it was quite low and would quickly disappear behind trees. Photos are consistent with our impressions in the field, though they cannot fully capture that.
