Observation details
An overall dark storm-petrel with no projecting feet beyond the tail. It glided past the port side relatively close on arched wings, often flapping. The bird was quite dark with very faint, barely noticeable carpal bars above, and appearing entirely dark below. The boldly contrasting white “band rump” was limited to the upperparts, with no apparent wrapping down into the flanks or belly, when seen flying in profile. Flight was relatively steady, low over the water, with shallow bowed wing beats. Compared to Wilson's Storm-Petrel, this was a lankier, darker bird, with a smaller amount of white on the "rump." Had a more stocky appearance than Leach's Storm-Petrel, with a less bouncy flight attitude.
