Observation details
Patty has photos. Big white band on one that ends at shoulder. Gold tinged back feathers. In the grass on upper flats. One was in breeding plumage, and two were in transitional plumage. The bird in breeding plumage had gold spangled upperparts, white supercilium extending into bulging white patches on the side of the neck that did not continue down the flanks, black flanks without white markings, black underparts all the way to the vent. They were too far off to see the primary extensions. PR 5/14/2024 - After review by eBird compilers, I am changing this entry from American to Pacific Golden Plover. Although bulging can be seen in the white patches on the neck, the overall shape and the presence of a small amount of white on the flanks indicates an id of American. PR
