Observation details
The swans apparently spent the night on the pond and its small island since they were there the previous evening and again in the foggy morning. At 7:14, while I was at the far end of the property, they trumpeted once or twice and took off to the south and then east over the Penn Hollow valley towards Otter Creek. I was out of sight, and unlike the mallards and Wood Ducks, the swans seem unperturbed as I walk by, so I am sure that I did not prompt their departure.
