Observation details
The bird was perched about 8-10 m above the ground in a stand of silver wattle (Acacia dealbata) in dense canopy beside the frog ponds in which there was a reasonable amount of water. From behind the plumage was a deep, dark brown with white dots on its wings. When I went to the front the bird was looking down at me and had bright yellow eyes. I couldn’t see ‘goggles’ or eye patches on it. Its face was quite dark brown. There was no facial disc. It had pale vertical stripes on its breast. It was approx 35 - 40 cm length. In checking further bird id books I see that it could have been a Morepork.
