Observation details
Characteristic Paddle-Like Wing Shape was observed. Same Individual was observed during Morning and Evening at same observation spot. During Morning, flew very close to me, around 10 feet above my head. Couldn’t focus using telephoto lens, so decided to observe him with naked eyes as he soared close to me. Pale Rufous Underparts and underwing coverts. Tail and Primaries were barred prominently. Wing Shape was distinct. Tail wasn’t as long as Typical Accipiters. Small to Medium Sized Raptor. Definitely looked bigger than Female Shikra, but was also definitely smaller than average Black Kite. Very Quiet and Inconspicuous. Initially, Likely took off from Canopy Perch since most of the area was heavily wooded. Again observed during Evening at same spot while talking to friends. Again very quiet and inconspicuous Behavior. Could have easily been missed if not for being very alert. Almost like a Ghost. Soared for a while and disappeared into the valley below Attakatti overlooking Aliyar Dam Reservoir. Most likely disappeared into some of the thickly wooded hills below. " Feathered tarsi with feet extending quite beyond tail base. Structurally also longer winged than JBaza" This checklist was created during Official Winter Bird Survey for Anaimalai Tiger Reserve where I led a team of birders and handled Attakatti-Upper Aliyar Zones.
