Observation details
Continuing Redpoll found by Bob Nieman. Refound by Jeff about here: 32.80908° N, 103.75140° W on the damp ground south of the inlet. Six or so fishing on the pond when we arrived, two in kayaks and parked near what seemed to be original location from yesterday. Bird seems unbothered at all by us watching for several minutes. Eventually it lifted up to about 20 feet and flew towards the pond and to the right around the dark green cottonwoods where we lost track as it crossed behind them. Seemed to be heading to perch in willows near original spot. Could not relocate again and winds eventually kicked up from the north pushing a wall of clouds over us. Wind kept on the rest of the time. Bird seemed roughly size of house finch. UTC looked clear and show clear/clean in photos. Rump appeared clear, lacking any streaking. Was not able to capture in images, but seems yesterday’s reports/photos support that as well. Overall the bird seemed very pale to whitish, limited streaking. Forehead appeared steep, as if bill punched in. Bill size maybe longer than would be expected from guides/ other images for Hoary. Otherwise this bird sure has a Hoary type look.
