Observation details
Decidedly larger than Ring-billed Gull (see photos) but a bit smaller than Herring Gull (see photos); blackish mantle and yellow legs. The main species of confusion would be California Gull, and this bird did have red and black in the bill, a drooping mandibular commissure ("gape"), and an iris color that I could not determine. However, it's head was too sloping for the rounded head of California, its size too big, its legs too yellow, its mantle too black, its wings too short, and its body too massive for California Gull. I am uncertain as to the cycle of this subadult bird.
