Observation details
Early arrivals also reported by others in the past few days. Minimum count of terns when perched on breakwater and closer rocks protruding above the water, also seen foraging up close from the rock wall at the Pier Vw Ave viewpoint (not sure if public, but there are no signs to indicate that it’s not, and one of the residents asked me what I was seeing and didn't seem to mind me standing on the rock wall). All the terns were in breeding plumage as far as I could tell, with reddish-orange bills, clean black caps, grayish bellies, and dark trailing edge to the wingtips. Harsh calls, unlike Least Tern. Photos taken of a few - my camera sucks at focusing on birds in flight...
