Observation details
It was a very bad day very windy and the air was heavy with dust from recent dust storms because of the drought. I was standing looking at the river and besides looking for birds I was trying to sight platypus which I use to see in the water. 2 birds sighted flying past me and they were not flushed out from ground cover or from the waters edge. 1 bird landed across the river into some reeds and the second bird landed in front of me but at a short distance way from me at that time I did not know what they were and I followed the bird to get a photo. As there was a drought there virtually was hardly any decent cover for the bird to hide I followed the bird a bit from a short distance where it turned and looked at me and just stopped and the bird did not fly away so I took the photos and backed well away and watched from a distance where it headed back towards where the other bird was across the river and found some decent ground cover to hide in. When I sighted the birds flying they seemed OK and not injured in any way, maybe they had flown a long way and were tied hence why the bird did not fly away from me or the weather brought them here. Photo's taken at 9.34am and as you can see by the photos it was a very dusty day.
