Observation details
First thought to be a dusky but now concluded as Hammond's. Empid flycatcher with small bill and primary extension that from some angles appeared to be rather short (close to the tail base) but appeared longer down the tail when extended out away from the tail. Bill color appeared dark from most angles but clearly a dark orange in the right lighting on at least the base. Grey head with olive-green back and yellow on belly. Flicking tail upward. Susan later got a photo that showed a bill color pattern pretty clear for Hammond's. My bird book claims that this species is vastly overreported on the west end of its range.
