Observation details
Adult male and female together. Studied through scope for about 20 minutes. Poor photos due to long distance to birds. Male black with white patches on nape and forehead. Female dark brown with whitish spots on cheek. Both with thick, scoter-like bill base. Larger than the nearby Lesser Scaups, Buffleheads, and Ruddy Ducks. Probably the first spring record for Umatilla County.
