Observation details
We stopped at a sod farm in search of shorebirds. Here we found a large flock of 30 or more Pectoral Sandpipers foraging in an irrigated area that had been flooded by mistake. More common in the Fall than in the Spring they migrate through Texas from wintering grounds in South America to breeding grounds in the High Arctic. This is an adult, probably a female. Males are similar but usually have a darker breast patch.
