Observation details
Found half way down the jetty when it flew in front of me and landed on the rocks. Dark brown/black bird with long tapered wings and long, thin bill. White cap. Thinking it was next to impossible to find this bird because of the 100's of Black Terns (similar in size) feeding off the jetty. And then he flew right in front of me (white cap really showed up) and landed on a rock within 5-7yds of me. What stood out to me was the strong white cap that only covered about half of its head. Fairly long, thin bill and worn (whitish) wing coverts. Memorable experience due to the rarity of the bird, but also getting hammered by crashing waves coming over the jetty. Extreme birding, but cool.
