Observation details
We thought this was going to be a Sanderling when first seen from a distance, but then we never got super close, and we mistakenly settled on Semi Sand, in part because I incorrectly suggested that they should have more color at this season. Ned's photos are much better than the view I had in the field, bill structure, foot/toe structure (apparent lack of hind toe), and plumage are all better for Sanderling, apparent female in the midst of prealternate molt.
