Observation details
First, I saw a pinkish breasted gull with a black hooded head with white eye arcs. It turned and I saw the slightly darker gray mantle, which was darker than the nearby Bonaparte Gulls. The black folded primaries had three or four white wing tipped “windows”. I watched this bird for about a minute when the whole gull flock took flight and headed over towards the flooded area on Guldan. After making a phone call, and posting the sighting to our local group, I headed over to Guldan. During the drive over I saw many gulls flying back towards the pond area on Bangart Road, but I continued onward. At Guldan, I found a second Franklins that didn’t show the pinkish breast. I took photos of the second bird (on Guldan).
