Observation details
Bright Eastern race Bell’s. When I first came on it, it was outstretched in Wax Myrtle, eating a caterpillar giving me a clear view of the bird. I first thought Orange crowned due to yellowish plumage and grayish head with a bit of eye line. However, I quickly went to Bells as the bill was larger than Orange crowned. Also, the overall stalkier body as well. Yellowish plumage from about belly to undertail coverts. Greeny yellow back. It didn't have a distinctive wing bar, but out of the several views, I could make one out. it responded to a vireo scolding call and made a slight scolding call before moving on with a Blackpoll. edit * After reviewing the pic, I am certain this was a Bell's. Head is barely visible, but you can make out eye arc, whitish throat (picked out by another birder who viewed the pic), and a non-yellow head. Wing bar didn't stand out, but you can kinda see it in the wing. In the field I was able to make it out. One nice feature is the black/dark coloring in the tail feathers which you make out in the pic. I did not realize they had this till looking at pics on ebird. Use reference of Eastern "bright" Bell's Viero.
