Observation details
One sitting in nest, mate flew in with food then left. Still do not see any nestlings but the nest is approx. 1 km away in the forest. Tree is approx. 100' and nest is approx. 1/3 of the way down. Using super strong zoom camera. 3rd season we've seen it [new property for us]....the past 2 years have been successful with two youngsters fledging each year. Last year, we saw the first fluffy head on May 7th [apparently it takes about 4 weeks for the feathers to appear on the head according to Birds of the World data]. We're thinking there is likely at least one young one [we can't see inside obviously but it appears there may be feeding going on when the mate brings food]...we won't know until we see that first little fluffy white head peeking just above the edge of the nest.
