Media notes
Pair of adults prospecting on the fresh gravel 'beach' laid out for them (and plovers) in Webb's Field as part of conservation efforts on site by NPWS. Note the white bag fixed with poles adjacent to the terns which acts as a deterrent for day roosting gulls by buffeting in the wind. The terns appear not to be bothered by this low tech (but effective?) predator management tool.
Observation details
Very high count for April. Counts of c.100 on the beach at the colony site and c.50 in flight around the area at the same time. Lots of courtship and display noted. A pair of adults were also seen prospecting on the fresh gravel 'beach' laid out in Webb's Field for nesting terns/plovers.
