Observation details
***Uncommon species in Hastings/Dobbs, and more so from the prior. Only my third record for MacEachron (and Hastings), the last of which was also in April, the best window for BOGU on the Hudson. Pretty crazy spot: walking back after all but two Linnaean members were packed up and ready to leave, I put my scope down and peered back just in time to see these two birds fly in and land. I only saw their wings but BOGU has a signature look that’s easy to ID even without binocs, and I started sprinting back to the water while yelling at Nick to get back out! The birds landed on the backside of the pilings, but then all the guys flew into Kinnally Cove, and so too did the Bonies! As they whirled around the small cove, they came within 10ft of us on shore, giving *killer* views and making me kick myself about my broken camera. After this magical moment, the birds floated around the pilings, picking up here and there, before drifting far out and N. They eventually ended this encounter by flying Southbound down the river. Fantastic species here and an all-around great time with them as well. Digiscope photos
