Observation details
At least 3 confirmed adult HERG viewed both in flight and at rest on the main sandspit. In flight we noticed the large size, mostly pale underparts with contrasting black primary wing tips, and pink legs. When they landed the larger size became very apparent compared to the other gull species. The Herring Gulls looked huge next to the Bonaparte’s Gulls. They were also noticeably larger than the Ring-billed Gulls. Their backs were pale gray, the bills were yellow with a red spot, and the eyes were light in color.
