Observation details
Storm-petrel with white underparts and underwing flash observed at first drift site. Bird was amongst ~50 Wilson's SP, at a distance of >100m and was incredibly hard to pick out. Unfortunately not seen by all on board. A brief sighting again 10min later even further out, but its presence merged quickly into disguise with the adjacent WSP. Just based on size/jizz alone and strong similarity to WSP it appeared to be NZSP. Distant photos don't show the presence of under-belly streaking, however the presence of a strong dark stripe on flanks is consistent with NZSP. Size and flight style alone is considered to rule out Black-bellied Storm-petrel.
