Observation details
Continuing bird. Wind was howling, so tracking down the sparrow was tough going. All looks were brief and unsatisfying. Never was able to get a usable photo. The bird only flew high once (it did not vocalize at that time) preferring to stay low to the ground as it flew between shrubs. When it was heard singing, it stayed deeply buried in low shrubbery. Because I never had a good look, I could only describe it as being a drab gray sparrow with a brown-ish pattern on its back and/or wings. With that said, the song was unmistakable, making identification certain. The sound recording was made on an iPhone with no windscreen and processed in Adobe Audition to remove loud wind noise.
