Observation details
Third day in a row that I came to the dog park at Flat Rock Park to find this rare bird and photograph it. I succeeded this time with the help of David Drake, a master naturalist and a monthly Bird Walk and Talk leader. Again I headed for he green bench and soon spotted it (not easy!!!) standing on the branch of a dead Bald Cypress tree across the river. The first photo below was taken with my 600mm lens. Photo 2 is a Photoshop enlargement of one of the cleanest exposures. The Brown Booby is about 30”, the size of a Black Vulture and somewhat resembles a pelican with a cone-like bill. While observing the bird it took flight from its perch to catch a fish. I missed capturing the catching but got some decent shots of it flying low over the river. Photo 6 is where the bird landed after its fishing-flight.
