Observation details
A bit confused about the behavior of these two. Thought maybe there was an odd ground nesting thing going on even though they nest higher up usually. I first spotted one of them on the edges of a marsh area (being vague in case there is a nest.) Hours later, finishing my loop, he was in the exact same spot and posture. As I got closer, he got up and walked over to a second heron who I initially did not see buried in the grasses. This one was hunched down like many birds appear when incubating. That one also got up in response and moved a bit, so I know she was not immobile. Zooming in on my photos, I don't see any nesting material, though she is quite obscured. Perhaps one is vulnerable in some way and the other was protecting them. I've not seen two non-nesting GRHE interact in this way, especially being willing to stick around to get to the other one instead of just flying off or staying hidden. Will upload photos, but the one lying down is quite obscured as I did not want to approach closer, especially if they are nesting.
