Observation details
First spotted by Gustavo Bautista and seen by the others through his telescope, at quite some distance and half hidden in the vegetation. However, somewhat later it was seen at much closer range on an exposed branch, where we were able to take a bunch of photographs. A relatively large flycatcher with a dark, heavy bill and brownish upperparts with a rufous tail. It had a characteristic black mask with a thick whitish superciliary. It is the second time I see this species in Arboreto Caral, which is the southermost location where the species is known to occur.
