Observation details
This male bird had a bright, full, lemon-yellow throat, which I initially thought was just the lighting since I have been tricked in this manner before, but after watching for a moment I could confirm it was pigmented. The bird had white eye arcs above and below the eyes, but the white eyebrow found on Myrtle warblers was not detectable. To my eye, the black patches on the sides of the breast seemed darker and less streaked than a Myrtle as well. Wings had bold white patches. All else to me resembled a Myrtle warbler. I took recordings of its chip notes and a mediocre recording of its song, but I am admittedly very inexperienced in comparing the two subspecies’ vocalizations. To me, this bird's chip notes sounded quite similar to a standard Myrtle; the song, I couldn't say. I also got a few phone photos through my binoculars that did not turn out well as the bird was far and the sky was grey. They do not accurately reflect how bright the throat was. I stayed with this bird for over an hour and it was exceedingly uncooperative, sticking to the tops of the trees at almost all times. Seen from the sandy area here (44.9596960, -93.2155036) facing north; it spent the most time at the top of a cottonwood next to the river, and was in this tree when I left at around 10:45. ADDENDUM as of 3 pm: I returned at 2 to the same spot with camera in tow, albeit with only a 250mm zoom lens. Still, I refound the bird pretty quickly in the same cottonwood and got a few shots showing the throat more clearly, see attached. 5 minutes later the bird flew NE towards the parkway and I could not refind it. I would have stayed longer but it was going to rain. Same bird two days later here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S170085425
