Observation details
****Mega, first state record found early afternoon by Eric Elvert. I was at work when I opened facebook to the pictures on the Ohio Rare Birds page, and promptly wrapped things up to make the trip down from Kenyon. A crisply plumaged adult bird with gray upperparts, pale underparts, black bib and partial hood, and a striking white face intercepted by a dark eye stripe. Bird exhibited pipit-like behavior, foraging around the remnants of a small wet spot with constant tail wagging. Only a handful of inland records for the ABA, and third Midwest record following two in Michigan in 1996 and 2011. Ocularis ssp. appears to be the consensus.
