Observation details
Continuing find by Keith Condon. Larger than cagu, dark mantle, yellow legs and feet, darker wingtips than mantle, one white mirror on P10, thick yellow bill, pale eye, yellow-orange orbital ring. Not particularly attenuate. Fairly large secondary skirt and obvious white tertial crescent p9 on left wing is molting. Lots of photos. Legs too bright yellow for Western, bill too thick, wings not particularly attenuated, wrong orbital color for Lesser Black-backed. CD notes: Gull looked like a Western Gull (similar size, structure and medium-dark gray mantle) but with yellow legs. Chunky, broad-chested, large gull, especially compared to nearby Californias and Ring-billeds. Bright yellow thick legs. Eye color a mix of yellow-pale green set off by mostly yellow orbital rings. White unblemished head. Thick yellow bill, a large red gonys spot, bulbous-tipped. Behavior: perched on north shore orange buoys (knocking off other gulls a couple times), floated in water, occasionally flew a high broad circle passing overhead and continuing around the lake counterclockwise returning to the north side and landed along the shoreline a few times for close, well-lit views.
