Observation details
First found by David Guertin on April 19 and subsequently seen by many others. Ruff was at small "island" about 0.4 mile north of Creek Road and in the company of four yellowlegs. Body size similar to that of Lesser Yellowlegs (LEYE; photo below); however, slightly shorter legged and, therefore, not as tall as LEYE. Overall body color was buffy brown unlike the grayer yellowlegs. Back scaley: feathers with dark centers and buffy margins. Head, neck and upper breast soft brown with little to no markings and contrasting with white lower breast, belly and undertail coverts; some blurry grayish markings on sides of lower breast. Bill comparatively short and slightly decurved; dark gray or blackish. White forehead and lores were very obvious. Leg color was orange-yellow.
