I would not normally include such poor photos as this one on ebird, but include it only because it might help resolve species identification. Photo is not edited for color, only for clarity.
Observation details
Flyover seen from putting green near clubhouse of golf course. Bird disappeared behind trees beyond arching bridge of golf course. Large tern in breeding plumage with solid dark cap and bright, mostly orange-appearing bill. Bill appeared more orange than red, but black pattern on underwing pattern was more consistent with photographs and descriptions of Caspian versus Royal Tern. Thank you to Patrick Maurice and to Nathan Farnau for pointing out this pattern. The presence or absence of a subtle black tip on the bill cannot be discerned from the photos. Photos were taken at a great distance and latter two are blurry.
